Palm Pre Gets Some Security Fixes With WebOS 104
Palm has released an update for the Palm Pre’s operating system that takes care of some security problems.
Exactly what the security problems in the previous version were is not known, as Palm’s release notes on webOS 1.0.4 are very vague:
This release addresses several security issues with Palm webOS software.
This update dies, however, bring a touch of celebrity to Townsend Ladd Harris, who the company thanks for “his help in identifying some of the issues addressed in this release.”
There are no other changes in webOS 1.0.4, including no additional software.
The Updates Keep Coming
At this point, Palm seems to have settled into a schedule of releasing a ROM update for the Pre roughly every two weeks. The first update came out in early June, the second in mid-June, and now the third is out a week or so later.
This update is being pushed out to Palm Pre users now. Those who don’t want to wait can go to the Updates application on their device and download it immediately.
Unlike with Palm OS-based devices from this company, installing webOS 1.0.4 does not involve erasing everything on the smartphone, and can be done in a few minutes.
