Microsoft Silverlight Coming To Future Nokia Devices

Making good on a promise to use Silverlight in more than just desktop computers, Microsoft has announced that this multimedia platform will be available for Symbian S60, S40, and Nokia’s Internet Tablet devices in the coming months.

Silverlight is a cross-platform plug-in used in delivering enhanced media and interactive applications to several devices, often in the web browser. It is often compared to Adobe Flash. Created using .NET based technologies, Silverlight aims for a faster development time and a better connected experience for end-users.

Microsoft will demonstrate Silverlight on S60 during the opening keyote at Microsoft’s MIX08 conference on March 5 in Las Vegas. Silverlight will be made available to S60 developers later this year, and S60 licensees will then receive the S60 Silverlight run-time to use for their devices sometime afterwards.

More on Silverlight is available on Microsoft’s web site.
